Everyone you talk to will have a To-Do cruise story. You may have even read the wonderful list of things to do on sea days and rainy days while you are on your cruise, I have written. Now let’s explore some crazy things people do while on a cruise and offer you some hints of what not to do when you are on your cruise.

Going to a new port, you’d be crazy to not go ashore. Every port has something to offer. Part of the charm is the tacky tourist souvenirs. You can never have too many magnets, tea towel or beach towels. The value of that mass produced item will be returned to you every time you look at it for years to come.  Even if you have been the port before, there is always a new adventure to be had. Pack your day pack and head ashore.

You would be crazy not to consider sea sickness. Even the best of sea dogs has an occasional bad day at sea, so always consider a plan for sea sickness. Personally I have never suffered from seasickness, I know enough who have. Whether you wear Dramamine patches, acupressure bracelets, eat green apples or ginger, at least have a backup plan.

You would be crazy not to take advantage of all the entertainment. Your fares include a lot of fantastic entertainment from for the pool side party, culinary or ice carving demonstrations to the stage show in the main theatre. Juggling, dancers, acrobats, comedians, musicians, cruise companies offer every imaginable form of entertainment, keep an eye out in the daily cruise diary for different activities and shows.

You would be crazy if you don’t buy at least 1 professional photo. After all these years of cruising some of my best friends are ships photographers. They are talented at their job and they can make you look amazing. I will always advise you do alternative poses than the ones suggested, some photogs appreciate the diversity (some don’t). I will always buy the embarkation photo because most cruise lines have a post-production surround that includes the date, the itinerary of the cruise and sometimes the ships specs.

You would be crazy not to take a swimming costume. Nothing can be as bad on a hot cruise day and you don’t have your swimming costume. Don’t panic most cruise lines have a limited choice and sizing available for sale on board.

You would definitely be crazy if you eat too much at the buffet. Yes, you are on holidays. Yes, you’re are not cooking or doing the washing up, but there is nothing worse than seeing a plate full of food that is going to go to waste. The whole idea of the buffet is have a little bit of everything, not all of everything. If you particularly liked the morsel that you collected first, then go back and get another small portion. You are feeding one person not a small third world developing nation.

You would be crazy if you don’t go to Bingo during the cruise, even if it is the last day with the bigger jackpot. Much too regular Bingo goers disgust I always suggest to go to Bingo on the last day when the jackpot has to go off. Of course you can go every day and spend your money, the excitement is always worth the fee, I am seeing that the old paper and dabbers are being replaced by electronic tablets that seem to win more often, playing more games at a higher fee. Remember, always gamble responsibly.

If your unique circumstance requires it, you would be crazy not to hire a professional cruise companion. Live your cruise dream with dignity and wake up at sea with the support of someone who has cruised extensively.  Hire a professional cruise companion, pack your suitcase, your adventures await.
